World Cup Hosting Decision Imminent After months of negotiating, preening and butt-kissing the results of the vote to host the World Cup in 2018 and 2022 will be announced Dec. 2. Despite wide-spread speculation of vote-trading and cash for vote swaps the vote will go on as planned. England, the early front-runner for the 2018 Cup has fallen to the way-side as the English media have been at the forefront of announcing corruption charges. The U.S. was originally viewed as a winner for 2022 but has been drawn back to the pack by lavish financial promises made by Qatar that would alleviate concerns over 108 degree heat during the summer. Qatar has no real answer for the fact that their national team is on no one's radar as one of the emerging teams in the world and they would offer little real competition if included in the World Cup field. |
NASL Finalizes 2011 D-2 Bid With the clock winding down and USL Pro stealing away Rochester and Austin, the latter to Orlando, NASL has submitted their bid for D-2 certification to USSF. Some waivers will probably be necessary as the league will contain three teams located outside the U.S., Montreal, Edmonton, Puerto Rico, to go along with American sides Atlanta, Minnesota, Miami, Tampa, and Carolina. St. Louis is still in negotiations with a potential buyer that could make them team nine and San Antonio is looking to join in 2012. A "Baltimore FC" squad showed on the press release but no further info on the team or their potential inclusion in the league was mentioned. |

Baltimore Soccer Stadium & Arena Updates The feasibilty study for a soccer specific stadium to possibly grace the Baltimore skyline has been ongoing for what seems forever with no potential release date. Perhaps the results are being held until the close of the MLS season, Nov. 21. Baltimore City, Crystal Palace Baltimore, Developer Patrick Turner, and the Maryland Stadium Authority commissioned Crossroads Consulting Services of Tampa, FL to complete the study. In other soccer related construction news possibilities for a new Baltimore Arena have resurfaced with the new site being kited replacing the original section of the Baltimore Convention Center and the Sheraton Hotel downtown. This site would not require the demolition of the First Mariner Arena until the new facility would be completed thereby ensuring continuity of play for the Blast if such a plan comes to pass. Blast Start 2 and 0 The Blast have handled their second expansion team in as many attempts, defeating the Vipers in Omaha by a final score of 15-10. Balanced scoring carried the day as several Blast players got onto the score sheet including longtime nemesis Pat Morris who notched his first in a Baltimore uniform. Next up for the Blast is the third and final expansion team for the 2010-2011 season, the Missouri Comets. The Comets have only one victory to show from their first four MISL contests and they will have to be sharp if they are to get any joy from playing the Blast at the First Mariner Arena on Dec. 11. |

US National Team News The US Men defeated South Africa on a late goal by 17 year old substitute Juan Agudelo in his first match for the senior national team. The men take a break until after the holidays when they will host Chile at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA. Match tie is set for 3 P.M. Eastern time. The US Women qualify for the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup after defeating Italy in a pair of 1-0 matches. The US will need to be much improved from their recent run of form if they seek to add a third World Cup title to the US Soccer trophy case. The women were drawn into a first round group with North Korea, Colombia and Sweden. Their opening match of the World Cup will be against North Korea on June 28.
