  Palace Fall to Geryhounds

Following a 2-1 win over the University of Maryland in their first pre-season match, the Eagles dropped a 4-3 decision to Loyola University.  The first night of play at Loyola's new stadium seemed to energize the young Greyhounds who were tenacious on both ends of the field throughout the match.  While Palace's goal total is something positive to be taken from the match, though one goal was a result of a penalty kick, the defense has yet to gel as a cohesive unit.  Even the return of defender Paul Robson couldn't off set the Loyola attack.  Palace's next exhibition is Saturday evening in Richmond against the Kickers at Ukrop Park.  Match time is 5:00 P.M.

New Developments for Eagles Nest 1/19/10

With funding now secured from Baltimore City, Crystal Palace Baltimore and Developer Patrick Turner, the Maryland Stadium Authority will begin a feasibility study on the proposed stadiums for DC United at the Westport site and for Crystal Palace Baltimore at the Carroll-Camden Industrial area (intersection of Wicomico and W. Ostend St.) west of M&T Bank Stadium, home of the Baltimore Ravens.  While a projected completion date of the privately financed Crystal Palace Stadium is slated for 2012, DC United has yet to officially throw their weight behind a Baltimore stadium effort.  For those who feel like giving the Stadium Authority a little nudge in approving the Crystal Palace Baltimore stadium effort their email is msa@mdstad.com

Baltimore Blasts Into Second Place

The Blast defeated the Monterrey LaRaza 12-11 at First Mariner Arena.  The game was marred by several ejections including Blast goalkeeper Sagu who was asked to leave in the third quarter of play.  With back-up goalkeeper Dave Kern inactive on the evening the Blast turned to former palace defender Mike Lookingland to step in goal where he was able to preserve the victory.  Next up for the Blast is a visit from last year's NISL runner up the Rockford Rampage on March 12.  The next night the Blast will conclude the home portion of their schedule in a rescheduled match with the Philadelphia Kixx.

US National Team News

The U.S. Men's National team looked out of synch as they fell to the Netherlands 2-1.  An early penalty was awarded the Dutch after a foul in the box by Jonathan Bornstein.  The lone U.S. tally came late in the contest courtesy of a Carlos Bocanegra header.  The Men continue their preparations for the 2010 World Cup with a match against the Czech Republic May 25 in Connecticut.

The US Women finished a stellar Algarve Cup effort in Portugal with an exciting 3-2 victory over Germany.  The tournament win is the seventh for the U.S. Women.  Next up for the Women are two matches with Mexico on March 28 and March 31.
